Dr. Oliver grew up on a large cattle ranch in Eastern New Mexico. Using horses to
work cattle and learning to break colts at a young age spurred his interest in horses. He worked for many neighboring ranches including working for legendary cutting horse trainer Larry Reeder. He graduated high school from Fort Sumner, NM and attended Oklahoma State University as an animal science major. Graduating he entered Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Oliver found his love of surgery and sports medicine during his internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital under the tutelage of Drs. Mike Major and Brent Hague. Following his internship, he was accepted for a large animal surgical residence at Texas A&M University. During his time at Texas A&M, he was fortunate enough to learn surgical skills under skilled surgeons Drs. Jeff Watkins, Joanne Hardy, and Peter Rakestraw. Dr. Oliver accepted an associate position at Performance Equine Associates in Thackerville, OK. Where he has been since 2014 as a surgeon. Dr. Oliver’s professional interests include orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, and diagnostic imaging. He enjoys being teamed up with western performance horse
trainers in their pursuits on the show circuit. He also serves on the Texas Equine
Veterinary Association board of directors and as the vice president-elect of the
association. He enjoys the interactions with students and other practitioners through the association.
Dr. Candi Mattke is an associate veterinarian of Performance Equine. She specializes in general medicine, ambulatory care, and reproduction. Dr. Mattke earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and then went on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. After graduation, she completed a one-year internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, OK.
Dr. Mattke and her husband live on their ranch in Valley View, TX. Her husband, Mack, is a civil engineer with Kimley Horn in Denton, TX. She enjoys riding horses, raising beef cattle, water skiing, attending sporting events and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Easter (Lane) was the founding and managing partner of Performance Equine Associates of North Central Texas and Oklahoma from its beginning in 1999 and is now the Lead Veterinarian at Altano Oklahoma Performance Equine, LLC dba Performance Equine Associates in Thackerville, OK. Lane is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and concentrates his practice around lameness and surgery of the western performance horse. Dr. Easter’s love is orthopedic surgery and his interest and research revolved around internal fixation. Lane is a 1993 graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine where he also completed his surgery residency. Dr. Easter was a staff veterinarian for 2 years at Katy Equine Hospital in Katy, TX before residency and then served as a faculty surgeon at Texas A&M Large Animal Hospital post residency before helping found the initial Performance Equine Associates in Whitesboro, TX. Dr. Easter is a frequently invited speaker on equine lameness and surgery internationally and serves on committees and as a consultant for various western performance horse organizations. Lane grew up in a cattle ranching family near Jacksboro, TX and his primary interest outside of veterinary medicine are cattle ranching, shooting, hunting, and fishing. Lane is married to Kristie Easter with children Jessica and Martin and resides outside of Gainesville, TX.
Dr. Calva was born and raised in Mexico City. She studied Veterinary Medicine at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and graduated on June of 2013. After veterinary school, Dr. Calva worked for a year at a nonprofit organization called The Donkey Sanctuary. In 2015 she went to Lexington Kentucky to work in ambulatory medicine at Rood & Riddle. In 2018 she joined the family of Performance Equine Associates. Her primary interests include internal medicine, neonatology and medical emergencies. Her favorite thing to do is taking care of the new born foals.
Dr. Tyler Troop is an Ardmore, Oklahoma native who grew up in a family of human physicians. He aspired to combine the challenge of medicine with his interest in horses. He attended Texas Tech University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree of Animal Science in preparation to attend Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Tyler graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. After graduation, he then returned to southern Oklahoma where he currently resides. In 2012, Dr. Troop, along with partner Dr. Easter, opened Performance Equine Associates in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Dr. Troop primarily practices in north Texas and southern Oklahoma and has a special interest in sports medicine of western performance horses. In his free time he enjoys spending quality time fishing and hunting with his 2 sons Tate and Rhyder Troop.
